Netflix Woes! The streaming giant lost 200K subscribers last quarter and could lose millions more. This compounded the 40% loss in share value so far this year for Netflix. Now, the never ever ads platform could be looking to use ads to help gain back revenue. It is a dog eat dog world out there for subscription based streaming.

 

Recreational Pot Legalized in 18 states and DC. It is said that nearly 70% of voters want pot to be legal but the senate doesn't look likely to pass a nationwide cannabis legalization bill. As C3 mentioned in Mondays newsletter, Pot may not itself be a huge problem, but the real threat is the slippery slope it will provide to legalized hard drug use. Our memory is brought back to Gay Marriage and the slippery slope it provided for all the transgender nonsense going on now.

 

Mercedes increasing EV Competition: Mercedes will release its first electric SUV in the States. The price is going to be north of $100K. Tesla and BMW are the top competitors in the luxury EV space.

 

Covid News: J&J are not optimistic about sales reports for its one and done jab because vaccine demand continues to cool. Uber & Lyft both drop the mask mandates for riders and drivers. The Biden administration desperately tries to use Covid to stop the predicted midterm election disaster. Well, that all sounds great to us! Also, major cities like NY, LA, Boston and Chicago still have some form of mask mandates...Can you hear us shaking our head?!

 

FL Gov. DeSantis vs. Disney World: It all started over the bill that stops any discussion of gender identity and sexual orientation in the classroom for kids up to 3rd grade (Should be for all grades, just our opinion). Disney spoke out against the bill because they are ridiculously woke and would prefer our kids to be stupefied and groomed (Apologies, this one has us a little on edge). DeSantis fired back with asking state lawmakers to revoke Disney's Special status in FL within their "Special District" that allows them to act as a municipal government.

 

Blackstone buys $12.8B in housing: This trend of major institutions buying up more and more real estate is something to keep an eye on. BlackRock and others have been buying up so much housing that it is going to make it more and more difficult for the general public to become landowners. 

 

SiriusXM is the Chip shortages next victim: SiriusXM has surprised many by flourishing in what we thought was a dying industry, Radio. They did this by diversifying content and partnering with car manufacturers (Think what Roku did with TV makers). However, the chip shortage has car sales way down and SiriusXM is feeling the hurt. New car sales is the bread and butter of profits for SiriusXM.

 

The Home Market favors Sellers! Well duh, is probably what you are saying right now, but do you know why? The mortgage rate is now over 5% and with most home owners having a mortgage rate well below 5%, owners are going to want to stay put and this means less inventory for buyers which means prices go up!

 

NFT Craze may be cooling: The infamous first tweet by Jack Dorsey that went for almost $3M last year is now up for sale and bids are no where near the $3M price tag.

 

CNN+ & Apple TV+ are struggling: We mentioned in an earlier newsletter that CNN+ is way below their predicted subscription numbers and that does not seem to be changing, but even the Apple TV+ Jon Stewart show is only raking in 40,000 viewers. This could be telling the story that these major tech & media companies are truly out of touch with everyday Americans. Tell us something we don't know!
