Money can be a great obstacle to the Kingdom of Heaven. Our Lord communicates this to us in the Gospel of Mark Chapter 10 in the story of the rich young man. Would it not stand to reason that the way in which we obtain our money could be a great obstacle as well?

The Supreme Court ruled that colleges can no longer consider race as part of admissions. What a novel idea? Judge someone based on their merit rather than their skin color. If only some great figures from the past would have told us to do that!!!

Pres. Biden thinks this ruling is not in line with what most Americans hold dear. Our President really has his finger on the pulse of the nation. Many big-time corporations like Apple, Meta and Google are speaking out against the ruling saying it will be harder to get qualified talent that meets their diversity requirements (That sentence was hard to type...).

I have both criticisms and praise for President Trump, but no one can deny that the current supreme court is one of his greatest accomplishments.

Student Debt payments may be returning...maybe...

The Supreme Court was busy getting things done for the good of the country last week. Not only did SCOTUS nix affirmative action but the justices also put the debt relief program launched by Biden into a coffin, or did they? Everyone is trying to figure out what the strike down by SCOTUS on student debt relief will actually mean. The short answer is that the relief program is in the hands of congress right now and congress is unlikely to give it the greenlight. However, the Biden admin think they can put off student debt payments for another year. Yet, this thought may just be to save face since the debt ceiling bill that was just signed into existence says that the student debt payment pause has to end unless there is another national emergency.

The Student debt relief program sounds great for individual borrowers, but we all know that we will pay for it one way or another. It could come in the form of higher prices at the grocery store or the gas pump or it could come in the form of education being devalued. Either way, there is no such thing as a free lunch! At least not in the world of finance and government.
