I come across a lot of odd videos during my week, this is due to my weird viewing history on YouTube of Christian Apologetics, Finance research, and King of the Hill
clips. One video I felt called to watch was the above CNBC International video on the decline in worldwide marriage rates.
The video is of course secular in its delivery and misses crucial points, but the concerns it expresses are valid! Whether you are a
Christian or an atheist you should be concerned about these falling rates of marriage.
Falling rates in marriage not only mean less families producing saints, but it also means more selfish people. Kids have a way of making us into servants but not in an
eye deadening TV dad Sitcom way, but in a way like that of our Savior and Lord. Kids are and should be the natural product of marriage and without marriage there is no caring for kids or a spouse, there is only the self. Of course, kids and marriage is not in the cards for everyone and that is okay, but marriage should be at least an option on the table for the vast majority of us, and right now that is simply not the case.
This decline in the fundamental function of society (The Family) means countries like Japan, China, The UK, and even the US have declining populations. Declining populations means less commerce, fewer jobs getting done, and whole industries dying off. For the previously mentioned world superpowers, this is all bad
news. China even has state funded dating apps encouraging marriage right now.
SILVER LINING: Some have said that this decline in marriage and the drop in babies being born to replace the dying older generations has a bright spot. That Bright
spot is that the people having kids are usually "religious" people. If religious families are the only families raising kids, then the next generation could become very conservative and God fearing. We have already seen this trend play out in the US with Gen z to a small extent. After all, any Old Testament Scholar will tell you the people of God exist in cycles. The dying Church of today, could be thriving tomorrow. The Truth never dies.
