What do we need? is what we need impossible?

The big story this past week has been the ousting of Sam Altman from OpenAI. Sam Altman was the CEO of the most influential AI company out there. The reason for Altman's firing has been clouded in secrecy but many think it was about a disagreement between Altman and the board about how aggressively to pursue and commercialize OpenAI's products and tech. 

Sam Altman was pretty aggressive in his AI push, though a recent interview with Joe Rogan did make him sound like he was cautious about the dangers of AI. Either way the board of OpenAI which is controlled as a nonprofit entity seems to want more caution when moving forward with all things AI. 

I wrote a few weeks ago about how dangerous technology can be and not for the typical reasons one might think. My basic point was that the real danger of advanced tech is not the matrix or terminator situations but rather us just becoming psychologically enslaved because of how addictive the tech has become and will become. 

Either way, these giant tech companies need to do the impossible to make sure society does not become stupefied. They need to find someone who will not be blinded by the massive potential profits, is thinking clearly about the safety of future generations, and has a strong understanding of both the tech and societal infrastructure in regard to ethics. I am not sure a person like that even exists, Though I hope and pray they do!!

Always remember, no matter how bleak the news gets, the war has already been won. Christus Rex!!

• The Sam Altman OpenAI drama had stocks spinning at the beginning of the week with Microsoft being a clear winner.

• Newly elected Argentinian President, Javier Milei, ran on a right-wing/libertarian platform that prioritized using the US Dollar over Pesos. Many support this notion because it would in theory reduce Argentina's historic levels of inflation by taking the power from the central banks and stopping them from printing so much money. The only problem is that some analysts do not think the banks have enough money to buy up all the pesos in circulation.

• Wells Fargo employees are kicking off a unionization campaign. 

• Bayer stock had its worst day ever because its Roundup weedkiller lost a lawsuit that it caused cancer and has to pay out $1.56 billion in claims.

• Citigroup is laying off thousands of employees in hopes that a restructure can revitalize their stock price. Citigroup has been the worst performing major bank in the banking sector.

• President Biden is now 81 years old, and the frontrunner to be his challenger in 2024 is 77. Just thought this was interesting given the importance one particular party puts on getting rid of old white men.

• IDF’s reports that hospitals throughout Gaza were used as command centers for Hamas have been backed up by interrogations with Gaza terrorists and testimonies from Gaza residents.

• Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022 every pro-life referendum that has been on a statewide ballot has failed. There has been a call for Por-life leaders to come together and strategize how to win this battle for life in 2024 where a dozen referendums will be up for vote.

• A school choice bill was voted down in red state Texas, showing just how influential and powerful teachers unions are. The bill H.B.1 would have given parents the ability to use up to 75% of the cost of attending public school per child towards tuition for a school of their choice.
