As of late I have been thinking a lot about currency. What currency would be best for a Christian society? Is there even a chance that we will experience a Christian society before the second coming? If so, what is the best form of currency given the world in which we live?
I believe the best form of currency for the Christian society would be something close to a barter and trade society revolving around actual goods/services and operating within a close-knit community. This is something that is doable to varying degrees for some Christians, however, given our current global state of affairs this is probably not achievable on any large scale. Secular governments, the extraordinary cost of owning productive land,
Scripture not being so optimistic about the future moral state of the world, economic intermingling between nations, and the allure of the World Wide Web are all things that make it seemingly impossible to return to a local economy driven by a close-knit community. We have dug our grave of a global secular economy, and we now must learn how to be Christian within it. I mean for starters we would need a Christian society to operate in which doesn't really exist and probably never will. Of the 8
billion people on the planet only 2 billion are self-proclaimed Christian and a very small percentage of those would be considered "on fire" Christians and they are spread throughout the known world. Then there is the temptation to wall ourselves off from the rest of the world that would need to be faced honestly. Yes, some of us our called to secluded religious life, yet, others are called to public ministry. As the Body of Christ, we must perform the difficult balancing act of being in the
world but not of the world.
We of course need to strive for the Christian ideal (Even if it is impossible, though we know nothing is impossible with our Heavenly Father), but there are steps that need to be taken and considered if we are going to start the generational work of getting to that ideal. Therefore, I would
like to encourage everyone to answer the below poll on what the best form of currency is for the world in which we currently live. The criteria you should have in mind when voting is feasibility of implementation, moral implications, and global effects on societies. Also, please keep in mind that we are picking the lesser of possible evils. No form of currency for a global society such as ours will be 100% good. After I get the results
of this poll I will take the next several weeks doing a "medium" dive into the pros and cons of Fiat, Gold, and BTC as a widely accepted currency. After each currency has been tackled, we will do another poll and see if the results change at all. I of course at the end will be giving my personal thoughts and reflections.
