Why is welfare so bad?
Many of my libertarian friends will claim that the welfare state is horrible because it is inefficient, invades privacy, makes people lazy, dependent, and stupid. All of these
grievances are well founded and can be proven through data and a deep dive into US history. But if I am going to make the same case as Ben Shapiro and other libertarian and conservative pundits then why not just read them? Though I agree with the previously stated points I want to attack the problem from a more spiritual perspective.
The number one enemy the devil tries to attack
is not any member of the Trinity, it is the family and more specifically the mother. Think about who Satan hates most. The majority of Christians are probably tempted to say Jesus Christ, since he defeated sin and evil by dying and rising. But the majority of Christians would, I believe, be wrong on this point. The Blessed Mother is who Satan hates most. Why? Because she took his spot and got to do what he wanted to do. Mama Mary, as she is referred to in my home, is said to have a seat above
even the arch angels in Catholic Theology. She is second only to the persons of the Trinity. Who had this spot before the Fall? Lucifer Morningstar did! Why did he fall? Because he wanted to be God, he wanted to create, but he couldn’t. Yet, this little handmaid, the lowest of human beings (the object of envy for Satan), from a backwater town called Nazareth was given the ability not only to create, but to give birth to God Himself.
Satan HATES Mary and women. His methods of attacking women have become more sneaky and more effective as time has moved on. Satan now uses well intentioned people to implement government programs that break up and dissolve the family unit all out of hatred for families and mothers.
Welfare lifted the burden of caring for the least among us off the shoulders of the Churches and placed in the hands of the bureaucrats. In your time of need, do you want a government handout that will dissipate and eventually make the problem worse, or do you want a Christian community to fall back on? The latter is what we must strive towards.
Alimony is just an insurance plan for divorce, and divorce is a concept that Christ said you need a hardened heart to embrace. My heart goes out to the spouse who made a house a home while another spouse worked and then the working spouse decides to up and leave the homemaker high and dry. But providing an insurance policy for divorce has produced so much bad in the world. THINK: Gold
Diggers, incentivized breaking up of families, promiscuity, a disregard for romantic impulsive decision making.
Child Support is a fatally flawed noble pursuit. A man leaves a woman with 5 kids and he was the bread winner of the family and now the woman must figure out how to raise 5 kids with little to no income. This situation is nothing
but tragic! Yet, guaranteeing the mother support via government interference has only made women more reckless, men wearier, and families rarer. Remember that the family is the main environmental producer of saints. Perhaps when the government ceases to enforce child support, we still end up being stuck with the deteriorating family problem because of promiscuity and selfish people. I think over a generation or two this will not be the case, but it does not matter. The only motivation for
getting married should be an act of will to love your spouse as Christ loves the church. Likewise the only insurance policy that should exist for entering a marriage is a faith in our Lord. Call me too zealous if you want, but we must work towards the ideal and not settle for the flawed systems we have in place.
The government imposing itself on marriage is ridiculous. The only people
who should verify that you are married is you, your spouse and your church/God. The whole gay “marriage” thing comes to mind when I talk about this issue. Why do gay couples care if I, a mere man, think they are actually married. I do not care if they think I am married. I do not care if the government thinks I am married or removes my tax advantages. I only care that my wife and the Catholic Church think I am married. And I am only going to have more kids because my wife, God and I have
discerned it together. The government and outside parties should have no say and no influence.
The world is an evil place and well-intentioned people should be applauded for trying to fix family issues. But government programs enforcing some to take care of others is never going to be the answer. Christians and Christian communities and ultimately our Lord is the only answer to these
deep rooted problems. We need to let the churches pick back up what they put down in the 1960s when President Lyndon B. Johnson declared war on poverty.
Also, not for nothing, but when I worked for the NBA we had a term at All-Star weekends called Rachateering. It was a term we colorfully used to point out gold diggers trying to get with NBA players. If we said no more child
support and no more alimony, that depraved behavior would certainly lessen. What a good transition to next week…Professional Sports.
