I know a lot of people out there in conservative circles and Christian communities are celebrating the sweeping victory that Trump just delivered for conservative politics. And we all should celebrate to some extent. Because even though we know this world will pass away one day, at least now we have another good reason to hope that it won't be today.
Our country as a whole voted against the lunacy of transgender ideology, against the depravity of murdering babies, and for sensible foreign and economic policy. There is much work to be done, but for the moment, cheers all around!!
However, we as the Body of Christ know that power corrupts. This corruption is not instantaneous, but it is eventual and if the right maintains power in
all branches of government for any length of time than problems will ensue. This is not to say that we should all go left, but it is to just point out the fact I stress so often, governments and people are not our savior, Jesus Christ is, and the family is where He does his best work. Though nixing the department of education and nominating RFK Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services will probably keep the apocalypse at bay for some time.
This all leads me to a personal story that happened this past weekend. This story showcases how a family can and should operate towards the crown jewels of any family, namely the mothers.
My wife and I loaded up our 5 young children on Saturday to attend the 90th Birthday of my wife's paternal grandmother, Mama in New
Jersey. Mama is a woman who raised her 12 brothers and sisters from a very early age after her parents passed away and raised 4 children of her own. It goes without saying that this side of my family is huge. The party was hosted in a small space, and we crammed in about 40 adults and 21 children (19 of which were under 10yrs old). This party was a beautiful celebration of someone who has been a loving caregiver to so many people.
Unfortunately, the family as a whole is of course not without its flaws. A series of events led to insulting comments being directed toward my wife and other mothers of young children. This is not what I want to highlight though. Rather I would like to highlight the response from so many, if not basically all, of the family in coming to the defense of these mothers, especially my wife in a quick and overwhelming way.
During a celebration of the family matriarch, a few negative comments were said about young children, and a family who has immense respect for the most important job on earth, motherhood, was ready to go to war on behalf of the moms. Perhaps the reaction to the comments was overblown, but regardless of the reactions severity it showcases that this family has its priorities well aligned to a
degree.
As I took the whole situation in and reflected upon it, I learned a few things.
- (forgive me doting on my wife here, but I promise it is for good reason) My wife is an untouchable. She is a stay-at-home mom to 5 children all under the age of 7, she holds a special place in Mama's heart, and she has
more family members than I can count who would jump down your throat just for giving her a dirty look. I do believe this is how every family should be oriented. I and my wife are very blessed to be in a family that is oriented this way.
- When the 4th commandment of honoring thy father and mother is put into practice, especially for mothers, families stick together.
- Despite inevitable flaws, sins, and
shortcomings, I could not help but realize that this family has a healthy portion of "its Daily Bread." No one is exuberantly wealth by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that they are close, due the love for Mama and the children, they are well provided for. Their closeness is their wealth.
The astonishing conservative victory is a great thing, but families are a far, far greater
thing. This is why families should be the focus for everyone, especially those who want to build true wealth.
